What A Day

Well at last I've seen them - the white cliffs of Dover. We have travelled in excess of 1000kms today by car, ferry & London Tube. Trouble free but a long day from Seytroux to London. Staying at West Kensington in a really lovely apartment. I get the bedroom & the queen bed & Matt gets the sofa bed in the lounge room. Perfect gentleman! We caught the tube to Hyde Park so that we could indulge Matt with tea at Hard Rock cafe. We had to wait 1/2 hour or so but the food was good. We caught the ferry across the channel from Calais. It is amazing - absolutely enormous & lots of them. Shops, cafes, bars etc on board.
Saw lots of the motorways in France - almost no cars but lots of very expensive tolls. Travelled through some famous wine regions like Champagne (Bob & Jill & of course, Duncan)& through the Somme & other noteable historic areas mainly associated with the war.
Off to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the West End tomorrow night after dinner with Jacky and Dave (Matt's friends). Matt has to drop the car in for its check by 8.30am tomorrow morning while I catch up with my beauty sleep and then I'm not sure what we will do. Matt's choice. We are going on the London Eye & to the British Museum on Tuesday. Driving back on Wednesday. We have to be at the ferry by 7.25am on Wednesday so will be leaving the apartment about 5am! We left home at 5 am this morning - ungodly hour.
I've had a great Mother's Day - really quite different from any other I have experienced.

Hi Heather,
Good to hear that you are having a wonderful time - lucky you. Haven't seen the white cliffs of Dover, but believe they are awesome. All the kms you are you are doing! Wow!!!
The apartment in West Kensington sounds good! Gosh Matt sure is the "perfect gentleman" and an adoring son, giving you the big bed and he bedding down on the sofa bed! Good on you Matt!
Glad you thought of Duncan, Bob and me when you were travelling through the wine regions in France - wonder why!!!
Hope you enjoy Pricilla!!
I had a lovely Mothers Day at Suzanne's place, relaxing and popping a couple of bottles of "bubbles". She had a delicious array of food for lunch - far too much, so we did it all again on Sunday night!
We spoke to Henry on Skype as he was in Hong Kong with Robert and Natalie for the weekend. We could see him too which was great! He looked well and was having a 'ball' with them. Robert and Natalie tried to fit as much as possible into the 3 days so he saw a lot of the famous sights in Hong Kong, as well as Ocean Park which Henry loved. Also, I think he had a couple of Mc Donald's meals - pancakes with maple syrup for breaky on Sunday morning before we spoke to him!!! He flew back to China on Sunday night!
He is certainly a well travelled 15year old, eh? Harriette is doing her homework on my laptop, and now she wants one too! I told you she broke her ankle, didn't I? It can be painful at times, but hopefully it is improving! She limps around with a moon boot on looking like she is about to 'walk on the moon'.
Well will await another 'blog' from you. Enjoy yourself and take care. Love Jilly x
